We Do the Math. You Get the Answers.

Your Tempest measures 5 things. We turn that into 30+ derived metrics.
Automatically. Every single reading.

Raw Numbers. Half the Story.

Your station says 85°F, 80% humidity, 5 mph wind. Cool. But is it safe to exercise outside? Will your tomatoes stress? Should you spray the vineyard? The answers aren't in raw numbers — they're in what you derive from them.

30+ Derived Metrics. Every Reading.

Heat index, VPD, frost risk, spray conditions, wet bulb temperature, dew point depression — the metrics that actually tell you what to do. Calculated automatically, every single reading. Most apps show data. We show what it means.

LuxWX Comfort Index

Only on LuxWX

We built something nobody else has: a single 0-10 score that tells you how nice it is outside. Factors in temperature, humidity, wind, sun, and more. When it hits 8+? That's a Luxardo Day — perfect weather, worth savoring.

Learn about the Comfort Index

Temperature Calculations

Feels Like

"It's 72°F but feels like 78°F" — the number that actually matters when you're deciding what to wear.

Heat Index

When it's hot AND humid, this tells you how dangerous it really is. 95°F with high humidity? That's heat stroke territory.

Wind Chill

35°F with 20 mph wind? Feels like 24°F. Essential for knowing when frostbite becomes a real risk.

Humidex

The Canadian approach to "feels like" — combines heat and humidity. Useful when comparing to Environment Canada reports.

Wet Bulb Temperature

The lowest temp you can achieve through evaporation. Above 95°F wet bulb? The human body literally can't cool itself.

WBGT

Wet Bulb Globe Temperature — what OSHA and the military use to set work/rest cycles. The gold standard for heat safety.

Delta T

Difference between air temp and dew point. Spray applicators live by this — too low and droplets don't evaporate properly.

Humidity & Moisture

Dew Point

Above 65°F dew point? Muggy. Above 70°F? Oppressive. The single best number for judging how sticky it feels.

Frost Point

When dew point goes below freezing, it's frost point. Know exactly when your windshield will need scraping.

Dew Point Depression

How far temp is above dew point. Small gap? Fog is likely. Pilots check this before every flight.

VPD (Vapor Pressure Deficit)

The metric growers obsess over. Tells you how hard plants need to work to transpire. Wrong VPD = stressed crops.

Absolute Humidity

Actual grams of water per cubic meter of air. Unlike relative humidity, doesn't change with temperature.

Air & Atmosphere

Air Density

Crucial for pilots, drone operators, and anyone calculating drag. Hot thin air behaves differently than cold dense air.

Beaufort Scale

"Light breeze" vs "strong gale" — wind speed translated to what it actually means. Can you fly a kite? Launch a boat?

Cloud Cover

Estimated from solar radiation. Partly cloudy vs overcast — without looking out the window.

Solar Elevation Angle

Where the sun is in the sky, calculated from your exact location. Affects UV intensity and shadow length.

Growing & Agriculture

Frost Risk

Not just "is it 32°F?" but actual frost probability based on humidity, wind, and sky conditions. Protect your tender plants.

Leaf Wetness

Estimated hours of moisture on leaves. Disease loves wet foliage — know when fungicides matter most.

ET Reference

Evapotranspiration rate — how much water is leaving your soil and plants. The scientific way to know when to irrigate.

Viticulture & Wine Growing

Special metrics for vineyard management — because wine grapes are picky.

Powdery Mildew Risk

Calculated from temperature and humidity patterns. High risk days need spray. Low risk? Save your money.

Botrytis Risk

Gray mold thrives in specific conditions. We track them. Noble rot wine? Great. Ruined harvest? Not great.

Spray Conditions

Too hot, too windy, or temp/humidity wrong? We'll tell you when spraying is effective vs. wasted chemical.

Who Uses Derived Metrics?

Growers

VPD, frost risk, disease pressure. Data that protects your investment.

Athletes

WBGT for training safety. Know when to push and when to hydrate.

Homeowners

Dew point for AC efficiency. Frost alerts for pipes. Smarter living.

Winemakers

Disease risk, spray timing, harvest conditions. Precision viticulture.
