Privacy Policy

The Short Version

Your weather data is yours. We don't sell it. We don't share it. We use it to provide the service you signed up for — that's it. We collect what we need to run LuxWX and nothing more.

What We Collect

Account info: Your name, email, and login credentials when you sign up.

Weather data: All the readings from your connected stations — temperature, humidity, wind, rain, pressure, UV, and everything else your sensors report.

Payment info: Billing details processed through Stripe. We never see or store your full credit card number.

Usage data: How you interact with LuxWX — features you use, pages you visit, observation volumes, and service performance metrics. We use this to understand usage patterns and improve the platform.

Collector data: If you run an on-premise collector, it sends us operational health data to keep things running smoothly. This includes system metrics (CPU, memory, uptime), data processing performance, queue and connection status, and error diagnostics. Error reports may include your station and device identifiers so we can help you troubleshoot. This data is sent automatically as part of normal collector operation and is required for the service to function.

E-ink display data: If you connect an e-ink display, we collect basic device health information — battery level, WiFi signal strength, firmware version, uptime, and display performance — to keep your display running and deliver firmware updates. Your display's built-in temperature and humidity sensors can optionally contribute environmental readings, but this is off by default and only collected if you explicitly enable it in your display settings.

How We Use It

We use your data to run LuxWX: storing your weather observations, calculating derived metrics, sending alerts you've configured, and powering features like Ask LuxWX.

We track platform-level usage metrics — things like observation counts by source, feature adoption, and service performance — to understand how LuxWX is being used and where to focus improvements. When you use Ask LuxWX, we retain your conversations to provide customer support, monitor quality, and improve the feature. We also track request counts and token usage to manage costs. Your conversations are processed by third-party AI providers to generate responses, but are not used to train AI models and are not shared with anyone else.

We Don't Sell Your Data

Period. We don't sell, rent, or trade your personal information or weather data to anyone. Your data is yours.

Who We Share With

We work with a few service providers to run LuxWX: Stripe for payments, cloud providers for hosting, AI model providers for Ask LuxWX, and email services for notifications. They're contractually required to protect your data and only use it to provide their services to us.

Third-party data services: To provide forecasts and air quality data, we send your station's location coordinates to the National Weather Service (NWS) and PurpleAir APIs to retrieve local data. If you connect your WeatherFlow account, we exchange data with WeatherFlow to import and sync your stations.

We may also share information if required by law — but that's about it.

How Long We Keep It

Your weather data? Forever, as long as your account is active. That's the whole point — your complete weather archive. Collector and device telemetry is retained for operational monitoring and is periodically aged out. Account and payment records we keep as long as legally required.

Subscription cancellation: If you cancel your paid subscription, your account reverts to the free tier immediately. You have a 7-day grace period during which your historical data is preserved, giving you time to export your data or resubscribe. After the grace period, data retention is reduced to the free tier limit and older historical data will be removed.

Account deletion: If you choose to delete your account, deletion is immediate. We recommend exporting your data before deletion. Once deleted, your account and associated data cannot be recovered — but you're always welcome to create a new account.

Your Rights

You can access, correct, or delete your data anytime. You can export your weather history in CSV or JSON. You can unsubscribe from marketing emails. If you're in Europe, you have additional rights under GDPR. If you're in California, CCPA applies too.

Security

We use encryption, secure password hashing, access controls, and other industry-standard security measures. Payments go through PCI-compliant processors. We take security seriously.

Cookies

We use cookies for authentication (keeping you logged in), remembering your preferences, and analytics. You can manage your cookie preferences through the consent settings on our site.
