Troubleshooting

Common issues and how to fix them.

Not Receiving Push Notifications

Check iOS notification permissions

In the LuxWX app, go to Settings → Notifications. Permission should show "Authorized" and device should show "Registered".

If permission shows "Denied," tap "Open Settings" to go to iOS Settings and enable notifications for LuxWX.

Check that push is enabled on the alert

Each alert configuration has its own notification toggles. Make sure the push notification icon is active (not dimmed) on the specific alert you're expecting to hear from.

Check quiet hours

If you've set quiet hours (e.g., 10 PM to 7 AM), notifications are suppressed during that window. The alert still fires and appears in your history — you just won't get a push. Check your alert's quiet hours configuration.

Check cooldown

If you already received a notification for this alert type recently, the cooldown period may not have elapsed. For example, with a 2-hour cooldown, you won't get a second frost notification within 2 hours of the first one.

Is the station's master alerts toggle on?

In the Watchlist, each station has a master alerts toggle at the top. If this is off, no alerts will trigger from that station regardless of individual alert configurations.

Alerts Not Triggering

Verify your threshold and units

Make sure your threshold is set correctly in your unit system. If you're using Imperial and set a frost threshold of "2", that means 2°F (extremely cold), not 2°C. Check your unit system in Settings → Account.

Is the alert paused?

Paused alerts appear dimmed in the Watchlist. They keep their configuration but won't trigger. Swipe right on the alert and tap Resume.

Is your station sending data?

Alerts can only trigger on incoming data. If your station is offline or not sending observations, no alerts will fire. Check your station status on the LuxWX dashboard or look for a "Station Offline" alert (if you have one configured).

Could a more severe alert be suppressing it?

If you have both a Frost Warning (36°F) and a Freeze Warning (32°F), and the temperature drops straight to 28°F, only the Freeze Warning fires — the Frost Warning is suppressed because a more severe alert already covers it.

Check your suppression chains to understand which alerts suppress which.

Do you have an active subscription?

Weather alerts require an active LuxWX subscription. Vineyard alerts additionally require the vineyard feature. If your subscription has lapsed, alerts won't process.

Too Many Alerts

Increase the cooldown period

If you're getting too many notifications for the same alert, increase the cooldown. A 2-hour cooldown means at most one notification every 2 hours, even if the condition keeps triggering.

Set quiet hours for overnight alerts

If overnight temperature fluctuations are waking you up, set quiet hours from 10 PM to 7 AM on that alert. You'll still see the alerts in your feed in the morning.

Adjust your threshold

If an alert fires too often, your threshold might be too close to normal conditions. For example, a frost alert at 40°F will fire frequently on cool nights. Consider lowering it to 36°F or 34°F if you only want to know about actual frost risk.

Use suppression to your advantage

If you have multiple severity levels configured (e.g., Frost Warning + Freeze Warning + Hard Freeze), you'll only get the most severe notification — not all three. This is by design and reduces notification volume during severe events.

Mobile App Issues

I switched tenants and see old data

The app refreshes automatically when you switch. If data looks stale, pull down on the Alerts or Watchlist tab to force a refresh.

The app shows "No Internet Connection" but I have WiFi

Try closing and reopening the app. If it persists, check that LuxWX isn't restricted in iOS Settings under Cellular or WiFi.

I can't sign in with my magic link

Magic links expire after 15 minutes. Request a new one from the sign-in screen. Make sure you're tapping the link on the same device where LuxWX is installed.

The alert detail page shows "Notification: Skipped"

This means the alert fired but the notification was suppressed. Common reasons:

  • Quiet hours — The alert fired during your quiet window
  • Cooldown — Another notification was sent too recently
  • Channel disabled — Push notifications aren't enabled on this alert
